Recycling

DSCC recycles white paper, cardboard, aluminum cans and plastic bottles in an effort to reduce the amount of trash we send to landfills each year. The funds received from turning in recyclables to our contractor are put back into the MWR fund to enhance actitivies throughout the MWR division.

DID YOU KNOW????

In fiscal year 2011,  we collected and recycled:

  • 81 tons of cardboard
  • 231 tons of white ledger paper
  • 6.2 tons of newspaper and magazines
  • 10 tons of PET plastic containers
  • Over 1000 wooden pallets

On average, we empty the containers in the break pods in building 20 every 3 days. The green bags that we use are made from recycled material as well, and are recycled again after use.

The materials collected DID NOT go to a landfill, thus not only saving DLA installation services tipping charges, but paper companies who took the material saved energy by not having process new raw materials, like trees.

The proceeds generated from our material sales benefit our Warfighters and their families, as well as the civilian staff on base through the MWR services.
